If you are a fan of the late and very great rapper (like I
am) then you were VERY happy to hear that filmmaker John Singleton will be
writing, directing, and producing the biopic for Tupac. Finally! According to Rolling
Stone Singleton is working on the screenplay and expects to start
production this summer. Tupac was one of Singleton’s friends and wants to tell
his story in a powerful way because he believes that it is important to our
generation. The film will focus on Tupac’s rise to fame and lead to his murder
back in 1996.
The one question on everyone’s mind in regards to the film
is who will play Tupac? The actor of this lead role has not been casted yet.
Many ideas about what actors should get this role has been speculated and fans
of Tupac has been anxious to see who this actor will be. Yahoo
released a list of their suggested actors that include Columbus Short, Michael
B. Jordan, Brandon T. Jones, Chadwick Boseman, and Anthony Mackie. Out of their
list, I would have to give it to Michael B. Jordan. I don’t think any of them
look enough like Tupac, nor would they be able to capture his essence and
demeanor. Mackie played Tupac in the Biggie biopic, Notorious and I was not impressed with his performance. I think
that maybe they should just find a brand new, up and coming actor who could
effectively play the role.
Tupac is still one of my favorite rappers today. His talents
were beyond his lyrical skills. Tupac was a skilled actor, acting in movies
that include Poetic Justice starring
Janet Jackson, Juice, and Gang Related. He was involved in many philanthropic
efforts like reaching out to a young dying who was a fan and putting together a
benefit concert to help out a non-profit organization. He also wrote poetry.
After his death, a book of poems titled The
Rose That Grew From Concrete was released showcasing his handwritten
version along with a typed version.

I really enjoyed this blog post because of the fact that it informed me of news I had not heard until now, about someone I really liked as an artist. I knew nothing about this film, or the fact that a book of poems by Tupac was ever even released! I feel that this film is long overdue, and I always wondered how they could have created a film about the notorious B.I.G., before putting out a film on Tupac. Tupac Shakur has been labeled, talked about, criticized, hated, and revered by various people. However, in my opinion, not enough has been brought to light about his kind and giving side. He seemed to really care about people, so I am glad that you mentioned his philanthropic efforts in your post. I hope that they highlight this side of him in the film as well. Additionally, I completely agree with your choice of who should play Tupac in this Singleton film, because I really think that Michael B. Jordan would be the best fit based upon his past work. He also is the closest in resemblance to the rapper, out of the list provided by Yahoo.
ReplyDeleteOverall, your blog website is very professional looking and inviting. The post itself is interesting and informative, yet concise at the same time. Please keep writing blog posts like this one for people, like me, who are out of the loop when it comes to some vital entertainment news.
Wow! Thanks for confirming the rumors of the Tupac biopic for me. It makes perfect sense for John Singleton to be writing and directing this film. I hope that this film lives up to its expectations, as it is severely overdue. This was a great post, although it was kind of trippy with you posting this on March 9th, the same day of the Notorious BIG’s death. I guess this just adds to the whole surrealism of it all.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't a big fan of the artist when he was alive but when he unfortunately passed I listened and read more about the artist and learned about the hardships and more about what he was attempting to change within his own society. The poetry he put out was tremendous.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that I liked about your post is the fact that you are telling people to look out for the biopic and giving people names that they can recognize. Some people state that they have made different things concerning events or people but unfortunately if it does not have the notoriety that people can relate to then it's useless to the audience.
I enjoyed reading your post. I am also a huge fan of Tupac Shakur and I am extremely excited about the biopic in the making. I must say though I believe Mackie did a decent job as Tupac in the Biggie move. As bad as it may sound, he portrayed Tupac's attitude decently for me. I do not think he should get any awards for it, but I think it was a decent casting. I also think Michael B. Jordan can do a great job as Tupac if he studies hard enough, but in my opinion it may be an even greater idea to just get a fresh face. Singleton needs to put a lot of time and effort into this film so that it is done to perfection for such an iconic individual.
